Giovanni Maria Farinella è Ricercatore (RTD-B) presso il Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica, Università di Catania, Italia. Svolge attività di ricerca nel settore della Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition e Machine Learning. Ricopre il ruolo di Associate Editor per le riviste internazionali Pattern Recognition e IET Computer Vision. Ha fondato (nel 2006) e attualmente dirige l'International Computer Vision Summer School. Ha anche fondato (nel 2014) e attualmente dirige la Medical Imaging Summer School. Ha ricevuto il PAMI Mark Everingham Prize 2017.
