International Students: Admission & Enrollment Guidance at UNICT

This section provides essential information for students holding a non-Italian high school diploma who wish to apply for our 3-year Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics (L-35).

Please visit the web page www.unict.it/en/education/bachelors-degrees for a complete overview of information.

1. Academic and Language Requirements

To be eligible for enrollment in a first-cycle degree (Bachelor) in Italy, international applicants must meet the following general criteria:

Schooling Years A secondary school diploma obtained after at least 12 years of global education, which legally qualifies you for university-level studies in your home country.

Official Documents Upon final registration, you must provide an official translation and legalization of your diploma, accompanied by a Dichiarazione di Valore (issued by the Italian Embassy/Consulate) or a CIMEA Statement of Comparability.

Language Proficiency Since regular lectures are held in Italian, non-EU students living abroad must prove a B2 level of Italian proficiency. This can be done by submitting a recognized certificate or by passing the university's internal Italian language evaluation test.

Background Evaluation Admission to the L-35 Mathematics course requires an assessment of your scientific and logical background. Please contact the Course Coordinator or check the annual admission call (Bando di Ammissione) to verify the specific entry-test requirements or curriculum evaluations applied to international credentials.

2. Application Procedure

• Pre-Enrollment via Universitaly (Mandatory for Non-EU) International applicants residing abroad must submit a pre-enrollment application exclusively through the national Universitaly Portal (www.universitaly.it), selecting the "University of Catania" and the Bachelor's Degree in "Mathematics".

• Deadlines Deadlines are set annually by ministerial guidelines (generally between late spring and mid-summer). We strongly recommend applying as early as possible to ensure enough time for visa processing.

• Visa Application Once the Academic Committee approves your application on Universitaly, you can officially apply for a Study Visa at the Italian Diplomatic Representation in your country.

3. Tuition Fees and Financial Aid

The University of Catania offers highly competitive study costs and extensive financial support:

Tuition Fees Fees are updated annually based on university regulations. Students from specific developing countries often qualify for low-cost, flat-rate tuition brackets. For precise rates, please consult the updated UniCT Student Tuition Regulation (Regolamento Contribuzione Studentesca) on the central portal.

ERSU Scholarships and Accommodation International students can apply for regional scholarships managed by ERSU Catania (the call usually opens in July). Eligible students can obtain a full tuition waiver, free accommodation in student residences, and free meals at university canteens based on academic merit and family income evaluation (ISEE Parificato).
