Antonino FURNARI

Associate Professor of Informatics [INFO-01/A]

Antonino Furnari is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Catania. He earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the same university in 2010, 2013, and 2017, respectively. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Image Processing Laboratory (IPLAB), where he conducts research in Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Machine Learning, with a specific focus on First Person Vision and intelligent systems for human activity analysis from wearable devices. In 2025, he founded the Collaborative Intelligence (Co-AI) research group. He is the author of three patents and over 120 publications in international journals and conferences, several of which have been recognized with awards and selected as oral presentations at venues such as ECCV, ICCV, and CVPR.

He has held scientific leadership roles in the organization of international events, including the ACVR, EPIC, Ego4D, and EgoVis workshop series, as well as the International Computer Vision Summer School (ICVSS). He is an Associate Editor in Chief for the journal Pattern Recognition and an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence and IET Computer Vision. He has also served as Area Chair for major conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, WACV, and ICRA. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of CVF and CVPL.

My research activity focuses on Computer Vision and Machine Learning. In particular, I study how intelligent systems can perceive, understand, and anticipate human actions and interactions from an embodied and egocentric perspective, with the goal of developing assistive technologies on wearable devices capable of providing direct support to users.
