Salvatore Angelo MARANO
S.A. Marano graduated in Mathematics at the University of Catania in 1987, won a prize of the Foundation 'Francesco Severi' in 1991, and became full professor of Mathematical Analysis in 2001. He wrote more than 90 research papers published on international journals and cooperated with both Italian and foreign researchers. He obtained several positions of Visiting Professor abroad, for instance in Torun, in Evora, and in Perpignan. From 2015 to 2021 S.A. Marano was a member the Scientific Committee of the Italian Mathematical Union, and, at present, belongs to the Scientific Committee of GNAMPA well as to the editorial board of some international journals.

S.A. Marano graduated in Mathematics at the University of Catania in 1987, won a prize of the Foundation 'Francesco Severi' in 1991, and became full professor of Mathematical Analysis in 2001. He wrote more than 90 research papers published on international journals of Mathematics, as, for instance, Advances in Differential Equations, Applicable Analysis, Differential and Integral Equations, Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems, Electronic Journal of Differential Equations, Journal of Convex Analysis, Journal of Differential Equations, Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, Nonlinear Analysis, NoDEA, Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, etc. He cooperated with both Italian and foreign researchers, among which L. Gorniewicz0 from the University of Torun (Poland), V. Staicu from the University of Evora (Portugal), D. Motreanu from the University of Perpignan (France), N.S. Papageorgiou from the Technical University of Athens (Greece), K. Perera from the Florida Institute of Technology (USA), and A. Moussaoui from the University of Bejaia (Algeria). He obtained several positions of Visiting Professor abroad, for instance in Torun, in Evora, and in Perpignan. Finally, he belongs to the editorial board of some mathematical journals, as Nonlinear Analysis Series B: Real World and Applications and Discussiones Mathematicae, Differential Inclusions, Control and Optimization, and has been the referee of many papers submitted to various international journals.
The past research activity of S.A. Marano deals with ordinary and partial differential equations or inclusions, fixed points to appropriate classes of multifunctions, and the semiconductor Boltzmann equation. His most recent research concerns the critical point theory for possibly non-smooth functions defined only on convex closed sets, with a particular attention to appropriate extensions of the classical Palais-Smale compactness condition, and the applications to hemivariational or variational-hemivariational inequalities, as well as to boundary-value problems for differential equations with discontinuous nonlinearites. The existence of both constant-sign and nodal solutions to Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin problems for various types of elliptic equations, sometimes depending on a positive real parameter, has been investigated gathering together variational methods and truncation techniques. Finally, he studied equations with p-Laplacian or (p,q)-Laplacian and critical Sobolev exponent, both in bounded domains and on the whole space.
