LABORATORIO DI MATEMATICHE ELEMENTARI

Academic Year 2026/2027 - Teacher: MARIA FLAVIA MAMMANA

Expected Learning Outcomes

The aim of the course is to "manipulate mathematics" through DGS, mathematical machines, 3D printing and Math walks.

In particular, the course proposes the following objectives:

Knowledge and understanding: To know the fundamental aspects of the technologies used in teaching/learning mathematics.

Applying knowledge and understanding: Apply modeling skills in different contexts

Making judgments: Make judgments about the quality of the proposed solution and evaluate its effectiveness. Acquiring critical skills in the areas of mathematics.

Communication skills : Ability to communicate their mathematical knowledge.

Learning skills : Using the knowledge gained to acquire new knowledge.

Course Structure

The course will take place twice a week. An active participation of the students is required: the lessons will be frontal and participated.

Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus.

If the course is delivered in blended or remote mode, appropriate adjustments may be made to the above, in order to ensure consistency with the syllabus.

Required Prerequisites

No pre-requisite is required. Knowledge of Euclidean geometry and GeoGebra is recommended.

Attendance of Lessons

Class attendance is strongly recommended.

Detailed Course Content

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The final examination consists of an oral test. The preparation of a 3D printing project or of a mathematical trail will also be required.

To take the final exam, you must have booked on the SmartEdu portal. For any technical issues regarding your booking, please contact the Academic Office.

Learning assessment may also be carried out on-line, should the conditions require it. To ensure equal opportunities and in compliance with current laws, interested students may request a personal interview in order to plan any compensatory and/or dispensatory measures based on educational objectives and specific needs. Students can also contact the CInAP (Centro per l'integrazione Attiva e Partecipata – Servizi per le Disabilità e/o i DSA) referring teacher within their department (https://www.cinap.unict.it/content/referenti).

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

Antiparallelogram.

Geometric locus generated by the midpoint of a segment when one endpoint varies on a circumference.
