Fabrizio Messina, born in 1979, has been an Associate Professor (Computer Science) at the University of Catania since March 2023.

He previously served as a fixed-term Researcher (since March 2018) and then as a Researcher (since March 2020).

He obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in the scientific sectors INFO-01/A and 09/IINF-05.

He teaches basics of programming for the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, High Availability Systems for the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science, and Virtual Systems for the Master's degree in Computer Science.

He collaborates with several research groups, including the research group of the Robotics Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science led by Professor Santoro. His research focuses on trust and reputation models and intelligent systems applied to large-scale social and computational systems, as well as high-availability systems.

He serves as an associate editor for several journals, including IEEE Access, Elsevier Computers and Electrical Engineering, The Computer Journal, and MDPI BDCC. He has served and continues to serve as a guest editor for various editorial projects.

He has been the scientific director of several projects funded by the University of Catania, as well as a PRIN 2020 project.

Main responsibilities.

He teaches Programming 1 for the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Central Systems for the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science, and Virtual Systems for the Master's degree in Computer Science.

He collaborates with several research groups, including the research group of the Robotics Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science led by Professor Santoro. His research focuses on trust and reputation models and intelligent systems applied to large-scale social and computational systems, as well as high-availability systems.

He serves as an associate editor for several journals, including IEEE Access, Elsevier Computers and Electrical Engineering, The Computer Journal, and MDPI BDCC. He has performed and continues to perform various editorial activities as a guest editor.

He regularly serves on the Program Committee for various international conferences with Proceedings IEEE and Springer, as well as in some editorial activities and has organized several workshops in the field.

He was the scientific director of several projects funded by the University of Catania, as well as a PRIN 2020 project.

In previous years, he taught the Distributed Systems 2 laboratory modules as well as technologies for distributed systems and the web. He also taught the Further Training Activities course.

He actively serves as a reviewer for several international journals, including Transactions on Cybernetics, Information Sciences, and the Journal of Network and Computer Applications.

He co-organized the EASS (European Agent Systems Summer School) in 2016 in Catania.
